"One of the few executives in financial services who has personally managed front office trading, large-scale operations, and enterprise technology across banks, exchanges, and investment management firms."

CAREER

Mat Small is the Managing Partner of AntePartners and brings more than 30 years of senior leadership across capital markets, banking, and technology. His career is distinguished by hands-on authority across three domains that most executives manage only one of: front office trading, operations, and technology. His traded product experience spans fixed income, mortgage-backed securities, equities, warrants, and derivatives. This front-to-back perspective, combined with genuine cross-institutional experience at global banks, a major US securities exchange, and a large government-sponsored investment management enterprise, enables him to benchmark approaches and design solutions that reflect best practice across the full spectrum of financial services.

At Citicorp, Mat built deep fixed income and structured products expertise in the MBS division before being deployed to Frankfurt, Germany for over two years, where he managed Citibank's European Warrants and Derivatives businesses end-to-end. He subsequently spent more than two years in London at Citicorp's Global Corporate Investment Bank managing cross-business transformation programs across European and global markets. At the American Stock Exchange, based between Stockholm and New York, Mat led the architecture and delivery of the Exchange's next-generation electronic trading platform before restructuring the entire technology organization, reducing a $168 million budget by 24% within 16 months. At Fannie Mae as Senior Vice President, he led the largest transformation in the history of one of the world's largest GSEs. The program fundamentally changed how the business managed its capital markets portfolio, redesigning all business processes for real-time trade management alongside the implementation of a new trading platform, full securities accounting infrastructure replacement, operations outsourcing, and enterprise data strategy. The outcome was a measurably more capable organization: accounting close cycles compressed from weeks to days, operating costs reduced, and a real-time analytics platform created whose underlying methodology was subsequently replicated across multiple enterprise initiatives.

In professional services, Mat served as a Partner at both Capco and Ernst & Young's Financial Services Advisory practice, advising C-suite and board-level clients on transformation strategy, regulatory governance, and risk frameworks. At AntePartners, his engagements span regulatory health assessments, model risk framework design, regulatory findings and enforcement action remediation, large-scale program turnaround, data and analytics transformation, and fractional C-suite leadership. His international operational experience across the US, UK, Germany, and Sweden makes him particularly well-suited to advising global banks navigating complex, cross-border challenges.

"A career built on stepping into the most complex, highest-risk programs in capital markets and financial services and delivering results that clients had stopped expecting."

Career

Patrick Connolly is a Principal at AntePartners with more than 30 years of hands-on leadership across capital markets, securities technology, and financial services operations. His career is defined by a singular discipline: identifying what is wrong with a failing program and fixing it quickly, sustainably, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. His institutional footprint spans Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Société Générale, Deutsche Bank, Fannie Mae, General Electric, and Citigroup, covering fixed income and rates technology, mortgage-backed securities, multi-asset class securities operations, and floor-based exchange technology.

At Morgan Stanley, Patrick generated savings in excess of $1 million per month by implementing a portfolio of change-the-bank enhancements and managing three major automation efforts simultaneously. At Fannie Mae as Vice President for Capital Markets and Securities Accounting Infrastructure, he directed a complex change program integrating multiple program management offices and creating a unified testing organization responsible for end-to-end integration testing of an enterprise-scale solution encompassing BlackRock's Aladdin and SimCorp platforms. At Société Générale, he delivered the T+2 Trade Settlement project on time and under budget and led the vendor proof of concept for the Consolidated Audit Trail program, integrating the firm's data lake with new external regulatory reporting requirements. At Deutsche Bank, serving as Head of Strategy and Governance for Global Rates IT and Commodities IT for six years, he developed an institutional perspective on how large technology organizations must be structured to operate efficiently under regulatory oversight. His regulatory program experience includes audit remediation and model risk management engagements at both JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley, where the cost of non-compliance was measured in financial penalties and reputational exposure.

At AntePartners, Patrick applies his program turnaround expertise, regulatory and audit remediation experience, and deep SDLC governance knowledge to help clients stabilize troubled initiatives and build the execution capability to sustain progress independently.
